(August 6, 1943) -- Seaman Second Class Herbert
R. Washburne, 31, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert L. Washburne of 23 Orchard
street, was killed in action aboard the
U.S.S. Juneau, along
with the five Sullivan brothers, during the Guadalcanal invasion on Nov. 13,
1942. He was a radio technician and had been reported missing on Jan. 15. Besides his parents, he leaves a brother, Pvt. John A. Washburne, who is with the Army Air Forces in North Africa.
